President-elect Donald Trump announced the appointment of Florida real estate developer Steve Witkoff as his special envoy for the Middle East.

Witkoff is the chairman CEO of The Witkoff Group, which he founded in 1997. According to his company’s website, Witkoff led the “financing, repositioning, and construction of over 70 properties in major business districts in the U.S. as well as abroad.” Earlier in his career, Witkoff co-founded Stellar Management Company, where he acquired and repositioned residential buildings in New York City. Earlier in his career, he practiced real estate law at Dreyer & Traub and Rosenman & Colin.

Witkoff, who has never previously held a diplomatic position, is a longtime friend and golfing partner of Trump and is the co-lead on his inaugural committee.
