A labor union representing workers in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has filed two lawsuits against Acting Director Russ Vought’s efforts to stop work at the regulatory agency.
Axios reports the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) filed its lawsuits in the US District Court for the District of Columbia. One lawsuit seeks to block the staff of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing information related to the CFPB employees. When the DOGE staff entered the CFPB headquarters late last week, the NTEU issued a press statement identifying them by name while making insulting statements about them and sarcastically claiming, “CFPB Union members welcome our newest colleagues and look forward to the smell of Axe Body Spray in our elevators.”
The second lawsuit claims that Vought’s directives to halt agency work while refusing to receive the next disbursement of funding for the agency “reflects an unlawful attempt to thwart Congress’s decision to create the CFPB to protect American consumers.” The CFPB receives its funding directly from the Federal Reserve and over the weekend Vought alerted the central bank that the CFPB that additional financing for Fiscal Year 2025 was unnecessary because the agency’s “current balance of $711.6 million is in fact excessive in the current fiscal environment.”
The union blamed Elon Musk, the head of DOGE, for trying to break the CFPB for his own personal gain.
“The unelected Musk recently announced plans for a new payments platform run jointly by Visa and ‘X’ (formerly Twitter),” said the union in a statement. “Now, he’s moved his power grab to the CFPB, in a clear attempt to attack union workers and defang the only agency that checks the greed of payment providers, as well as auto lenders like Tesla.
Vought, who is also director of the White House’s Office of Management and Budget, did not comment on the lawsuits. Over the weekend, he posted to X that the “CFPB has been a woke & weaponized agency against disfavored industries and individuals for a long time. This must end.”
cfpb is unregulated, out of control and time to be closed down. Also, why are there unions for federal employees? Unions of office workers? Unions for fed workers need to go.

This article would be more helpful if it just stuck to the facts without any hyperbole. Just tell it straight!
CFPB is evil. DOGE is good. Democrats are evil. America wants justice brought down on the deep state Democrats.

👏
So right Carey! When Congress allowed Federal employees to become unionized, it meant that the true POWER in this country would forever lie with the faceless, nameless, unelected bureaucrat class. That is until their Power can be broken, so we can get back to a Republic with 3 balanced branches of government, as truly intended by the Constitution.
Yes!!!!!!
Wish I could post and be sure that the public comments, which are off the rail – are not shown
Yay! Another slush fund for crooked politicians & their minions closed!
💯
Thankful for unions to represent unions and CFPB to protect consumers
