The Washington, DC headquarters of the Voice of America is the latest federal property on the list for “accelerated disposal.”

Bloomberg reports the property, formally known at the Wilbur Cohen Federal Building, is located south of the National Mall and two blocks from the US Capitol. The million-square-foot property was constructed in 1940 as the headquarters for the Social Security Administration, but instead was the home to the Department of War and the National Defense Commission during World War II. The Voice of America moved into the property in 1954.

Last year, the Biden administration negotiated a 15-year lease for new Washington headquarters for the Voice of America. In March, the Trump administration canceled the lease amid its efforts to shut down the Voice of America and other federally operated broadcasters including Radio Free Europe, Radio Free Asia, the Office of Cuba Broadcasting and the Open Technology Fund.
