Weis Markets Inc. (NYSE: WMK) has opened its first new supermarket in three years.
Grocery Dive reports the new 65,000-square-foot store in Linganore, Maryland, is also the first of six new locations that were first announced in May 2024. The company attributed the delayed opening to “significant labor and supply chain disruptions,” but it has since updated its outlook and recently announced in its annual report that “multiple store development and construction projects” are being scheduled for 2026.
The new store is Weis’ 50th in Maryland and includes a drive-thru pharmacy and a six-pump fuel center. A new 64,000-square-foot store in Middletown, Delaware, is slated to open later this year.
Weis Markets was founded in and operates 198 stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia.
