The mysterious buyer behind the most expensive New York City property sale of this year has been identified – and it turned out to be someone very familiar with the property.
The penthouse unit that occupies the top five floors of the historic Crown Building on Fifth Avenue building sold for $135 million. The unit encompasses roughly 13,236 square feet with another 4,462-square-feet of outdoor space and seven bedrooms. The property was sold in an unfinished condition.
The $135 million sale of the Penthouse at Aman New York underscores the desirability and appeal of Aman and the iconic Crown Building,” said a spokesperson for OKO Group, the developer behind the property. “We continue to entertain significant demand for Aman New York’s residences, even as the building’s units are fully committed.”
When the news of the sale was announced, the buyer’s identity was not revealed. However, a Wall Street Journal report sourced from an unnamed “person familiar with the matter” identified the buyer as Russian-born billionaire Vladislav Doronin, who owns OKO Group. The penthouse has been vacant since Doronin told the Journal in 2019 that he made a deal to sell the property for $180 million to an Asian buyer.
Neither Doronin nor an OKO Group spokesperson commented on the news report.

Was 180K, now it’s 135K? And it’s unfinished? A bit confusing for such an uplifting news report.
