Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has signed a bill that will provide a 130% refund of property taxes to homeowners whose residences were either damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Helene.
WSMV.com reports the legislation was unanimously passed by both the Tennessee House and Senate. The state comptroller’s office has mailed over 3,000 postcards to all eligible property owners in the nine Upper East Tennessee counties impacted by Helene.
Applications for relief will need to be filed by June 30. The comptroller’s office said applicants will need to provide identity and homeownership verification documents and a completed W-9 form.
However, only one owner per property will be considered as eligible for assistance. If more than one owner requests relief, the individual who filed all needed documentation first will receive the assistance.
