The board of trustees at Florida’s Miami Dade College voted unanimously to transfer more than two-and-a-half acres of land for the creation of President Donald Trump’s presidential library, marking the second time the school’s trustees approved this transaction.
In October, a Florida court temporary blocked the land transfer after local activist Marvin Dunn filed a lawsuit complaining the college did not provide reasonable public notice for its September board vote on the donation of the parcel that is currently being used as a parking lot. County appraisers estimate the parcel is worth more than $67 million.
Local10.com reports the board’s second voted followed three-and-a-half hours of public comment about the land transfer. However, the new vote does not cancel the court’s ruling that blocked the transfer – a trial on that issue is scheduled for August.
“This is a waste of time to come here,” said Dunn after the vote. “We have 20,000 letters that got sent to these board members saying, ‘Don’t do this.’”
