The listing price for the abandoned Spanish village of Candelago has been discounted.

The property was first listed at €200,000 (roughly $238,000) in 2021. According to Idealista.com, the price has now been reduced to €150,000 (approximately $179,000).

The village consists of 10 stone houses in various states of dilapidation located in Galicia’s Costa da Morte (Coast of Death, a name given due to the surplus number of shipwrecks that occurred). In addition to the broken-down houses, Candelago also includes (Galician granaries used to store and preserve food), ocean views, and proximity to wildlife trails – although these might be considered as a little too wild, given they have become overgrown after many years of abandonment.

As for its status as a ghost village, Candelago mirrored the fate of several other Galician villages that experienced significant population decline since the 1970s as residents moved out in search of employment elsewhere. An attempt to turn the village into a tourist destination came to naught.

And anyone investing in this village should be aware that Candelago is not in the middle of nowhere. The village of Corme, a fishing hub that is home to the historic Rocundo Lighthouse and the Museum of Contemporary Art Costa da Morte, is a few miles away.
