The luxury home purchased by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy following the assassination of President John. F. Kennedy will be the subject of a no-reserve auction on Oct. 24.
The property is based in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C., and was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1976. It was built in 1794 and later became better known as the Newton D. Baker Home after the eponymous resident – President Woodrow Wilson’s Secretary of War – resided there from 1916 to 1920. Mrs. Kennedy only lived there for a year before selling it to magazine publisher Michael Whitney Straight. The most recent owners were members of the United Arab Emirates’ royal family.
The 16,300-square-foot mansion was listed last year for $26.5 million and is now being offered at $19.5 million. It includes 13 bedrooms, 13 full baths and five half baths spread across a three-building compound that includes an underground parking lot.
The listing agent is Jonathan Taylor of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty and upcoming auction will be conducted by Concierge Auctions.
