The old saying that “a man’s home is his castle” has a special resonance for Mark Zuckerberg – his newest residential property is a castle built in 1830.

The Irish Examiner reports the Meta (NASDAQ: META) chieftain and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have acquired Strancally Castle in Ireland’s County Waterford. The Gothic-style, 440-acre estate is based along the banks of the River Blackwater, near the village of Knockanore in West Waterford.

Ireland plays a crucial role in Meta’s global operations. Its international headquarters are located in Dublin while its Reality Labs division is located in Cork. The company also operates a data center in Clonee, County Meath, and it employs approximately 1,500 Ireland-based staff members.

Zuckerberg, who acquired the property from private investment firm owners Michael and Giancarla Alen Buckley for an undisclosed sum, will use the castle as his base when he is in Ireland.

“Mark and his family are excited to continue caring for this historic home and look forward to spending time in Ireland, where Meta maintains its international headquarters,” said a Meta spokesperson.

The castle is Zuckerberg’s second major real estate purchase this year. In March, he paid $170 million to purchase a waterfront estate on Miami’s swanky “Billionaire Bunker” island.
