The General Services Administration (GSA) has ordered the turn off the electric vehicle (EV) chargers at federal buildings.
According to combined media reports, the GSA sent an email to federal agencies announcing the decision, noting the chargers were no longer viewed as “mission critical.” The announcement impacts hundreds of EV chargers nationwide with approximately 8,000 charging ports. The GSA directive also includes plans to offload the 25,000 EVs purchased under the Biden administration.
The Trump administration has aggressively pushed to roll back the EV policies of former President Joe Biden. Among the reversals was the suspension of the $5 billion National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program that was designed to expand the nation’s EV charging network.
This is breathtakingly stupid, wasteful, and cruel to employees who have been charging their cars while at work.
this is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard
people should have a choice and you’re taking that away
this only hurts people. nothing positive comes from this. please stop this ridiculous policy
No one gets their gas tank filled for free at work, buddy!!
Thanks! SMART DECISION/WHY SHOULD TAXPAYERS MONEY BE WASTED LIKE THAT??? THAT IS ONE OF THE REASON WE HAVE I NFLATION. ĹETS GO BACK TO: DRILL BABY, DRILL!!!!STOP THE BS OF WASTING M ARE OUR TAXES. THANK YOU MR. TRUMP! THANK YOU ELON FOR HELP US, THE MIDDLE CLASS. THANK YOU!
I’ll take a couple EV’s off your hands!
President Trump is doing a good job on the border, but.
Drill baby drill is funny…6o% of the oil that we need comes from Canada who has excellent oil reserves . President Trump puts a 10% tarrif on it. President Trump want’s the Keystone pipeline from Canada completed. He’s said so publicly.. which means we need more oil from Canada.( they have the kind of crude we need for our refinerys.)
Which means there’s something amiss here…Maybe the tarrifs will help pay for the proposed tax cut..The large part of the trade deficit with Canada is oil.
Maria – perhaps educate yourself before spouting off. The “drill baby drill” concept where we will eliminate importing crude oil from Canada is plagued with issues. Our gasoline refineries are built to refine the heavy dark crude oil from Canada, not the light sweet crude oil that is more plentiful in the Gulf of Mexico.
It is obvious that you do not know what “Inflation is” or you would know this is not a cause for inflation!
As citizens I think we deserve an environment that is more stable. Quit sending mixed signals and punishing those that followed the government’s lead towards a less polluting form of transportation.
I believe your “less polluting” term is a bit misleading if you consider the mining and rare earth metals needed to make the batteries. The fact we can’t believe anything we read or hear causes me to wonder if the availability and process of securing the materials for the EV batteries is as bad as reported.
They don’t need to be shut off. Surely there is a company or individual who would be willing to install or exchange a metered charger .for use by individuals needing chargers. Electrical usage by federally or other government owned vehicles could be billed just like petroleum based fuels. Afterall our head DOGER (Elon) has a lot invested in these electric vehcles. I would hate to see him lose any money.
I don’t see a problem leaving the chargers in place as long as the users pay just like any other public charging station.
Leave a few that chargers requiring payment to charge. Gas operated cars pay for gas and EV’s should pay to charge their vehicles.
Thank you, Stephen, for a moment of lucidity.
The charging stations should not be free. Charge the same as commercial charging stations.
Unfortunately this article is a bit short on specifics. As I understand it, these charging systems are there for the EV’s the government bought and uses, and that they are going to get rid of 25,000 government EV’s. Many commenters here are assuming that these chargers were for employees personal EV’s. Based on the article, that cannot be confirmened or denied, or if it was a mix of both. However, if at least some of these are available for employee use, converting some of them to fee based use while getting rid of the excess, would make a lot of sense. As far as EV’s go, they are not cost effective. We recently got an EV because most of our driving is local and we recently installed solar panels on our house (and we still have a gas car for long trips). But even with all that, the expense outweighs any savings. I find it interesting that Musk may be involved in this decision, and is evidence against the leftist haters that suggest he is there to only to benefit his own business interests.
Do you people with EVs expect the Federal Government to pay for commuting gasoline for the other workers. This is not a benefit that the Trump Administration is going to pay for. Figure out how to fuel your own vehicles, take a bus or walk.
Put a credit card meter on them and make a small profit.
