FHLBank Chicago expanded low-loan-balance pricing choices for member institutions using its Mortgage Partnership Finance program. The changes cover qualifying conventional mortgages with balances up to $450,000, including 15-, 20- and 30-year fixed-rate loans. The expanded options apply to MPF Traditional and MPF Xtra products. The bank says the change gives community lenders more choices when selling loans and aims to support lending in smaller-balance markets.
Existing incentives for loans serving low- and very-low-income borrowers remain available. The bank did not publish retail mortgage-rate reductions or projected borrower savings. A more favorable secondary-market execution can help a lender’s economics, but whether consumers receive better pricing depends on member participation, eligibility and competitive conditions. This is a program pricing change, not a change to federal underwriting standards.
The announcement was published October 7 and dated October 8, making it an industry update rather than a new October 14 breaking event.
