Flyhomes has added three senior executives as the company builds out distribution for its Buy Before You Sell platform and continues its shift away from operating a traditional real estate brokerage.
The company named former Zillow executive Tyler Moynihan vice president of business development, Nihit Nirmal vice president of product and Wendy Tieu director of partner enablement. The appointments were announced Oct. 1 as Flyhomes expands a wholesale strategy built around providing home-equity and bridge-style financing through mortgage and real estate partners.
The hires advance a transition WRE has been following since Flyhomes moved to close its brokerage operation and focus on wholesale lending.
Distribution is becoming the center of the strategy
Moynihan previously held leadership roles at Zillow and is being tasked with business development. Nirmal will oversee product work, while Tieu, who previously worked at Flyhomes, returns to focus on partner enablement.
The roles indicate where Flyhomes sees the next stage of growth: not simply originating transactions itself, but embedding its Buy Before You Sell product into the businesses of lenders, brokers and agents that already have customer relationships.
The product is intended to help existing homeowners unlock equity and compete for another property before their current home sells. That addresses one of the persistent frictions in move-up housing: owners may have substantial equity but cannot easily use it for the next purchase until a sale closes.
Flyhomes is trying to scale through partners
Flyhomes says its financing relationship with Figure gives the platform capacity to support as much as $2.4 billion in annual volume as adoption grows. That figure represents financing capacity described by the company, not actual funded annual production.
The company’s wholesale pivot followed years in which Flyhomes operated a more vertically integrated brokerage model. The new structure puts greater emphasis on technology, financing and distribution through third parties.
That makes the three hires more consequential than a routine personnel announcement. Flyhomes is staffing the functions—business development, product and partner enablement—that have to work if its wholesale model is going to scale.
The housing market provides both an opportunity and a constraint. High mortgage rates have made existing homeowners reluctant to sell, while accumulated equity gives many of those same owners substantial financial capacity. Products that allow homeowners to buy before selling are designed to bridge that mismatch.
The question now is whether Flyhomes can turn that need into repeatable volume through outside partners. Its latest hires suggest the company is putting its resources behind that distribution challenge.
