Connecticut’s largest city has been without a hotel for more than two years, but a new partnership is planning to fill that lodging void.
True North Hotel Group Inc. and Bridgeport Landing Development announced plans to build a Residence Inn by Marriott in Bridgeport. Construction is slated to begin in 2025, with the hotel being located at the mixed-use Steelepointe Harbor site along the Bridgeport waterfront.
“This hotel will provide a first-class experience for our guests and help bring more visitors to the waterfront and this inviting harborside community,” said Chris Harlow, vice president of development for True North Hotel Group, who added he was “confident that this hotel will be well received by visitors and are proud to be coming to the heart of Bridgeport’s renaissance to serve the community and the region.”
Bridgeport’s last hotel was a Holiday Inn that closed in January 2022 and was converted into rental housing. Over the past several years, there have been multiple announcements regarding potential hotels – most notably a hotel-casino resort that was proposed by MGM Resorts International but was dropped after Connecticut’s casino-owning Native American tribes refused to cede their gaming monopoly. To date, however, none of the hotel projects ever moved beyond the planning stage.
