Summary

Lazard completed its previously announced acquisition of Campbell Lutyens on November 2, 2026 and launched Lazard CL, combining private capital fundraising, secondary-market and GP advisory services. Real estate is among the sectors served. The original deal valued consideration at about $575 million with up to $85 million contingent; Lazard projects roughly $500 million of combined 2027 revenue.

Lazard completed its acquisition of Campbell Lutyens on Monday, bringing a longstanding private-markets adviser into a new business that will compete for real estate fund placements, secondary transactions and capital advice alongside work in private equity, infrastructure and credit.

The November 2 closing announcement confirms that the deal announced in April has been completed and that the combined advisory unit, Lazard CL, has begun operating. Lazard is describing it as a third global business alongside its existing operations.

The April agreement carried approximately $575 million in total consideration, with a potential additional $85 million tied to performance over several years, according to the original transaction announcement. Those figures describe the previously agreed deal terms, not a newly disclosed cash payment at closing. Lazard said Monday that upfront consideration was paid primarily in its shares, with portions subject to lockups lasting as long as three years.

Why real estate funds are part of the transaction

Campbell Lutyens, founded in 1988, has advised institutional investors and private-fund managers on fundraising, secondary transactions and general-partner capital solutions. Lazard’s existing private capital practice also has a real estate business. The combination gives both client groups access to a broader advisory roster and distribution network.

For property fund managers, secondary-market advice can be relevant when investors want to sell interests before a fund winds down, or when a manager seeks a continuation vehicle rather than selling properties outright. A secondary transaction is a negotiated transfer of an investment interest; it is not the same as a completed sale of the underlying apartment, office or industrial assets. Fundraising advice similarly does not mean a particular real estate fund has secured new commitments.

Lazard’s April materials identified the combined business as active across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. The company has not provided a separate real estate revenue figure for the acquired platform or identified a new property transaction arising from the merger.

A 2027 revenue target, not an achieved result

Lazard continues to anticipate approximately $500 million in combined revenue from Lazard CL in 2027 and expects the acquisition to add to earnings that year before synergies. That is management’s projection, not a completed annual result. The company said Campbell Lutyens has performed ahead of the assumptions used when the acquisition was announced, without breaking out real estate-specific revenue.

Holcombe Green and Gordon Bajnai are co-chief executives of the new unit. The arrangement pairs Lazard’s existing private capital team with Campbell Lutyens’ advisers rather than announcing a wholesale replacement of senior leadership.

The closing comes as real estate investment managers confront difficult decisions about asset sales, refinancing and fund liquidity. WRE News recently reported that ACORE raised $1.1 billion for commercial real estate credit and that commercial mortgage distress remains elevated in parts of the CMBS market. Those are separate developments, but they illustrate the financing and liquidity pressures that can increase demand for specialized private-capital advice.

Lazard CL will have to turn the enlarged network into actual advisory mandates. Monday’s confirmed event is the acquisition’s completion and launch of the combined platform; no new real estate fundraising closing was announced with it.
