Summary

Long & Foster named Daniel Dennis president and CEO, succeeding Patrick Bain and bringing an experienced brokerage leader back to the HomeServices of America network.

Long & Foster Companies has named Daniel Dennis president and CEO, bringing the veteran brokerage executive back into the HomeServices of America network as Patrick Bain prepares to step down after 16 years with the company.

The leadership change was announced Monday by HomeServices of America and Long & Foster. Bain, who has served as Long & Foster’s president and CEO for the past three and a half years, told HomeServices earlier this year that he planned to leave. He and Dennis will work together over the next several weeks during the transition.

Dennis most recently served as senior vice president of sales and service at RE/MAX, where his responsibilities included recruiting, brokerage and agent support, growth and expansion. Before joining RE/MAX, he spent more than a decade leading Roberts Brothers, a HomeServices brokerage in Alabama, and later served as president of Illustrated Properties in South Florida.

Dennis returns to the HomeServices network

The appointment brings Dennis back to a company system he knows well. His earlier HomeServices experience gives him familiarity with the parent organization while his more recent national role at RE/MAX exposed him to brokerage operators across the country.

As president and CEO, Dennis will oversee Long & Foster’s residential real estate brokerage and work with regional and local leaders as well as executives across the company’s affiliated businesses. Those businesses include mortgage, title, insurance, inspection and property management services.

HomeServices President and CEO Chris Kelly said Dennis brings brokerage leadership, team-building experience, luxury expertise and a national view of the industry. Dennis said his initial focus will include spending time across Long & Foster’s markets with agents, employees and local leaders.

The succession comes as large residential brokerages continue to navigate pressure on transaction volume, agent economics, commission practices and technology investment. For Long & Foster, the leadership change also comes with continuity at the ownership level: the company has been part of HomeServices of America since 2017.

Bain departs after 16 years

Bain joined Long & Foster in 2010 and eventually became president and CEO in 2023. The company said he led the organization through significant changes in both the housing market and residential brokerage industry while working to modernize the business.

Long & Foster was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia. Its brokerage footprint spans Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., West Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey.

Virginia Business reported that Long & Foster has more than 7,000 agents and completed nearly 33,000 transactions totaling $19.4 billion in 2025. Those figures provide a sense of the scale Dennis will inherit as he takes over one of the Mid-Atlantic’s best-known brokerage brands.
