A construction company owner in New York’s Long Island was arrested for allegedly hiring a hitman to bump off a competitor.

The New York Post reports that Navdeep Singh, the owner of Gravity Construction Corp., reportedly sought to end a legal conflict with a business rival by recruiting a contract killer to make his nemesis disappear. The contract killer would have received $100,000 and a 10-acre plot of land in India in exchange for his services, which would have involved the kidnapping, torture, and murder of Singh’s target. As part of the deal, Singh demanded confirmation of the hitman’s work with photographs of the would-be victim’s head and torso.

Although he was paid $7,000 in advance for his work, the recruited hitman reported Singh to the authorities, and Singh is now facing felony conspiracy and criminal solicitation charges. He is being held on $1 million cash bail or a bond of up to $5 million.

“The allegations against Navdeep Singh are deeply disturbing,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. “Because of a years-long dispute with a former business associate and multi-million dollar pending civil litigation between their two construction companies, this defendant allegedly decided to hatch a plot to have his rival kidnapped and murdered.”
