A North Carolina woman who presented herself as an advocate for financially struggling homeowners was sentenced to a minimum of 75 months with a maximum of 102 months in prison for her role in a real estate fraud case.
A jury found Lisa Roberts-Allen guilty of six counts of forging a deed – a Class H Felony. She was also convicted of two Class C Felonies for obtaining property by false pretenses of a value of more than $100,000. In addition to her prison sentence, Roberts-Allen was ordered to pay $55,000 in restitution.
Roberts-Allen created the nonprofit Home Advocates and Limitless Outreach (HALO) with alleged goal of helping financially vulnerable elderly homeowners. However, she conspired with two attorneys to steal and sell the homes.
The scheme was brought to light through the Ashville Watchdog series “Equity Erased,” and Roberts-Allen was charged in 2022 with 47 felony counts. However, her trial was delayed with the transfer of the prosecution from the Buncombe District Attorney to the North Carolina to the Secretary of State and by her attorney’s medical issues. Most of the charges against here were dropped before the trial began last week.
“Ms. Roberts-Allen portrayed herself as a housing advocate seeking to help those in need while in actuality helping herself to the generational wealth of vulnerable families,” said North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall.
The first suspect to stand trial in this case, attorney Robert P. Tucker II, was sentenced in February to a minimum of 48 months and a maximum of 70 months in prison for his role in this case. A second attorney, Ilesanmi Adaramola, is awaiting trial on notary fraud and forgery charges related to this case.
