While Pope Leo XIV prepares to move into the papal residence, the Chicago-area property that was the childhood home is on the market for $199,900.

Homes.com reports the former Cardinal Robert Prevost grew up in a 1,200-square-foot brick home in Dolton, Illinois, located near the South Side of Chicago. The new pope’s family owned the property from 1949 to 1996, and the property last changed hands when an investor purchased it for $66,000 with the goal of renovating and flipping the property.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home was listed in January for $219,000 and took a $19,000 price reduction in February. The sellers’ agent, Steve Budzik of iCandy Realty, was unaware of the pope’s connection to the property, although he was more focused on the current attractiveness to buyers.

“It’s a great price for the amount of bedrooms and bathrooms and being fully updated – it’s a phenomenal price,” said Budzik.
