The Trump administration is intervening in a case involving a 175-year-old family-owned farm being threatened with eminent domain seizure by the town of Cranbury, New Jersey, which wants to take the property for the construction of affordable housing.
Fox Business reports Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced on X that she was “looking into this situation immediately,” adding, “We must protect family farms at all costs.”
Brothers Christopher and Andy Henry own the property, which is leased out for cattle farming. They have declined offers of up to $30 million from developers eager to acquire their land, and they have gone to court to stop the town from taking their land.
The Henrys argue the farm is poorly located for housing because it is surrounded by warehouses, adding the town’s efforts contradict the town’s pledges of preserving local agriculture. Town officials declined to comment on the story.
Rollins noted while this was a municipal issue, she said that her department was “exploring every legal option to help.” She also added that “the Biden-style government takeover of our family farms is over.”
