Summary
UDR named former Blackstone managing director Scott McCallum executive vice president and chief investment officer effective November 5 2026.
Apartment owner UDR has appointed Blackstone executive Scott McCallum as executive vice president and chief investment officer, effective November 5, 2026, as the publicly traded multifamily REIT refreshes its senior investment leadership.
McCallum will report to UDR Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas W. Toomey, according to the company’s October 14 announcement.
Experience across residential investments
McCallum most recently served as a managing director in Blackstone’s real estate business, working on multifamily investment opportunities and transactions across the firm’s North American residential platforms. His background spans public and private real estate investments.
The appointment comes as institutional apartment owners balance acquisition opportunities, development costs, borrowing conditions and uneven performance across metropolitan rental markets. UDR has not announced a change in investment guidance solely as a result of the hiring.
As of June 30, UDR owned or held interests in 60,259 apartment homes, including 685 under development, according to its corporate disclosure. The new investment chief will take up the position in November; the announcement does not mean he has already assumed the role.
