In terms of apples and oranges comparisons, the contrast between homebuying and dating rarely comes up. However, the folks at Redfin (NASDAQ:RDFN) broached the topic with a survey of 1,000 Americans who bought a home in the last year.

The result of that survey: nearly two-thirds of recent homebuyers (59%) believed purchasing a house was more stressful than dating. The homebuying stress levels were higher among millennials and Gen Xers – nearly two-thirds of those demographics said it’s more stressful than dating – while Gen Zers and baby boomers believed dating created more agita. However, 67% of baby boomers felt divorce – that sour post-script to a longtime romance – was more stressful than homebuying, compared with 61% of millennials and 48% of Gen Z respondents.

“Getting ghosted by your date is stressful, but purchasing a home in today’s market comes with its own unique set of anxieties,” said Redfin Chief Economist Daryl Fairweather. “Buyers are increasingly ghosting sellers as housing costs climb, and high mortgage rates are prompting many homeowners to stay put instead of selling—meaning house hunters have a record low number of homes to swipe right on.”
