A Frank Lloyd Wright-designed residence in Kalamazoo, Michigan, was sold after nearly one year and a $1 million cut to its listing price.

Realtor.com reports the Usonian-style property known as the Robert D. and Winifred L. Winn House was first listed in June 2024 for $1.85 million. The sellers acquired the property in 2012 for $200,000 and spent $800,000 in renovations and updates to the residence, which was built in 1950.

However, the sellers had difficulty finding a buyer until they agreed to chop $1 million off the listing price. According to listing agent Fred Taber of Jaqua Realtors, the discounting sparked a sudden wave of enthusiasm in the property.

“The amount of interest was astronomical at that price,” said Taber, adding that inquiries came from around the world. The buyers, who was not identified, was a Midwesterner who is planning to use the home as a part-time residence.

The new owner of the 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom residence will also receive all of the home’s furnishings and lamps, which were built by the seller and based on Wright’s designs, along with the master architect’s blueprints featuring his handwritten notes.

When asked why the sellers made such a drastic price cut for the residence, Taber simply stated, “For personal reasons – they wanted to go for a quick sale.”
