The campaign to bring the Chicago Bears into northwest Indiana picked up more steam as the city of Gary, Indiana, unveiled three potential sites for a new stadium.
Filmogaz.com reports the Gary Stadium Authority identified three locations as “Plug-and-Play sites” for a stadium due to their readiness for immediate development. The proposed sites are the Gary West End Entertainment District near the Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana, Buffington Harbor, and Miller Beach adjacent to the Indiana Dunes National Park.
Gary Mayor Eddie Melton insisted his city is able to provide the Bears with tax stability and infrastructure support for a stadium, a contrast to the obstacles that the team is facing with Illinois lawmakers who are cool to the idea of using public funding for any part of a new stadium development.
“A move to Gary isn’t just about a building; it’s about building a dynasty,” Melton said, noting that his city’s location with the Chicagoland metro area would ensure the team is not leaving the region.
