The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act will become law today without President Trump’s signature.
The Constitution enables legislation passed by Congress to become law if it is not signed by the president within 10 days of his receiving the bill – provided Congress remains in session during that time.
Trump had supported the bill when it was going through various versions negotiated by the House of Representatives and the Senate but abruptly canceled a signing ceremony on Capitol Hill while citing the Republican-controlled Senate’s inability to pass the SAVE America Act, one of his priority legislative pieces.
In a Truth Social post this morning, Trump said he would allow the bill to pass without his signature.
“I will not sign the Housing Bill, which has been fully approved by Congress and sent to the White House, in PROTEST over the fact that the United States Senate is not capable of passing THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, which is polling at 97% with the Republican Party, and very high with the non-politician Dumocrats,” he wrote.
In the event he changes his mind, Trump has until midnight to veto the bill. However, Trump has only belittled the bill as a “big yawn” and has not dropped hints that a veto would be coming.
