SVN Auction Services (SVNAS) and its local affiliate, SVN Gilmore Auction & Realty, will conduct an online auction for the Carver Theatre, a historic venue in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans.

The Carver Theatre opened in 1950 and was named in honor after the scientist George Washington Carver. The building originally cost $300,000 with seating for 1,050 patrons, and for 30 years it hosted concerts, plays and community events. The Carver closed in 1980 and was repurposed as a medical clinic in 1984. The property was submerged under six feet of floodwater during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, reopening again in 2014 after an $8 million renovation brought back the Carver Theatre for live music, dramatic productions and community events.

The property spans 17,613 square feet on two floors with bar and concession areas, private balconies, a backstage “Green Room”, and secure parking. The theatre is located in an Opportunity and Enterprise Zone; SVNAS said it may qualify for state, federal historic, and new market tax credits due to its location.

The Carver Theatre plus 15 adjacent properties will be offered at auction with a starting bid of $2 million. Bidding will take place at CarverTheatreAuction.com from July 17-23.
