The former Connecticut estate of President Trump is undergoing significant upgrades, including the demolition of its mansion in favor of a new residence.
The 19,773-square-foot waterfront residence in the affluent New York City suburb of Greenwich was built in 1939 and features eight bedrooms and 11.5 bathrooms. Trump purchased the home for $4 million in 1984, which was acquired by Ivana in their 1991 divorce settlement. Ivana sold the property in 1998 to former Bear Stearns executive Robert Steinberg and his wife Suzanne for $15 million, which set a record price for Greenwich luxury real estate. The property changed hands in 2024 for $31.5 million, with the ownership of record listed as 21 Vista Drive LLC.
The Greenwich Time reports the main residence is slated to be torn down and replaced with a new one measuring around 17,000 square feet. An application submitted at the Greenwich Town Hall said the current owners plan to add an outdoor tennis court, an outdoor swimming pool, a large pavilion, an accessory dwelling unit, a sunken indoor tennis court, an employee housing, and new beach frontage.
The new buildings are being designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the firm established by former dean of the Yale School of Architecture who died last year. A preliminary review of the proposed changes by the Greenwich Planning & Zoning Commission has yet to be scheduled.
