When dog owners are looking for a new apartment, they are less concerned about their needs and more focused on whether their potential residence will accommodate their four-legged companions.

According to a survey by Cortland, the multifamily investment-development-management company, the primary considerations of apartment dwelling dog-owners looking for a new place are pet policies including size restrictions and pet deposits (86%), compared to cost (82%) and location (77%).

The survey also found 80% of respondents would consider moving into a new housing situation if their current situation wasn’t dog friendly, with 70% of Gen Z apartment renting dog owners stating they would consider moving if they could tell their dog was unhappy in their residence.

Furthermore, the survey found 70% of respondents claiming they are more likely to do business with a company that openly supports dog causes and charities than one that does not, while 76% of respondents insisted it was important for their dogs to have pet friends nearby when considering where to live.

“The survey underscores that pets are as much of a priority for apartment dwellers as they are to us, which motivates our team to continue to provide our residents, with hospitality-driven apartment living experiences with the whole family in mind,” said Tim Hermeling, Cortland executive vice president of marketing.
